Opayo History

Opayo is the new name for Sage Pay and is the UK brand name for Elavon which now owns the company. Opayo’s payment services have their roots in 2001 when Protx was created, and has been certified to offer online payments by most of the major UK banks. In 2006 Sage acquired Protx and became Sage Pay in 2009.

However, In 2012, Sage Pay expanded into the card machine payment market with the acquisition of Integral Computers Ltd. In 2017, in partnership with Oracle, Sage Pay developed an integrated payment solution for restaurants, bars and hotels. In 2020, Sage Pay was acquired by Elavon, a global payment provider and a US Bank affiliate and rebranded as Opayo.

Opayo continues to offer online payments, card machines, point-of-sale equipment, and telephone payments that can be integrated and interacted with Sage accounts.
